Audie’s Restaurant Celebrates 50 Years

Audie’s Restaurant is proudly celebrating 50 years of hospitality in Mackinaw City. Since 1974, the Jaggi Family and their dedicated staff have welcomed families from near and far all year ‘round. Known for it’s scratch kitchen, guests enjoy Audie’s home-cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner specials along with a variety of favorites. In May of 1974, Edgar and Audrey purchased the restaurant from the Downing family and, along with their 5 children, moved right in. Audie’s ongoing recipe for success is a tradition of hospitality, family, teamwork, and community.

Throughout the years, all five of the Jaggi children have worked in the restaurant and so have many of the grandchildren. In 2001, son Nick Jaggi, an eager study of his father’s trade and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, took over the restaurant. Edgar and Audrey are now enjoying an active retirement and can still be found in the dining rooms at Audie’s—sometimes wearing an apron! You’ll also find Nick’s son, Caleb, in the restaurant on a day-to-day basis preparing to become a third generation restaurant owner. While many things have changed over the last 20 plus years, friends of Audie’s will still see many familiar faces in the loyal staff, favorite recipes on the menu and an ongoing dedication to providing the highest standard of homemade foods, genuine hospitality, and service to the community. This has become a way of life at Audie’s and for the Jaggi Family.

Today, Audie’s Restaurant encompasses 3 unique dining rooms, a banquet room and also provides catering services. Audie’s Family Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in a casual atmosphere. A wide variety of menu items can be found from homemade pancakes to house-ground burgers and fresh local whitefish. Beer, wine and your favorite cocktails are served with a smile. Audie’s Chippewa Room and the Welcome Lounge open daily at 5 pm. The Chippewa Room offers a relaxed fine dining experience with a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence winning wine list. Specialties range from seafood, hand cut steaks and wild game to tableside dessert presentations. The Welcome Lounge is a locals’ hideaway, where you can enjoy your favorite cocktail and hear tall tales about local trophy mounts. Families and friends gather in Audie’s Banquet Room to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, and to share memories of times gone by. Additionally, Audie’s catering crew travels across the Straits area for wedding receptions, annual fundraising dinners, and other community events.

To kick off Audie’s 50th Anniversary, a golden year of celebratory plans are in the works. Friends are encouraged to share their memories of Audie’s over the years, where selected stories will be highlighted in our promotions. A “Dinner for Two for $50” in The Chippewa Room is already underway, Sunday through Thursday featuring our customers’ very favorite entrees. A special evening out for our staff will take place this spring during our annual employee appreciation banquet. The month of May, our anniversary month, will feature special giveaways and promises more fun!
